Unit Trusts

Unit trusts have been a popular way of investing in stockmarkets for more than 70 years. Invest in a unit trust and your money is pooled with that of other like-minded people in 'units' across a wide range of investments. Unit trusts work on the same general principles as investment bonds, ISAs and OEICs. They are 'wrappers' for investing your money. Please note that the value of these can fall as well as rise and are not guaranteed. You may not get back as much as you invest.

Investment Bonds

An investment bond is a life insurance plan designed to provide growth or income, or a combination of both on a lump sum investment. When you invest, your money goes into one or more investment funds you choose. Investment experts called fund managers invest the money on your behalf. You should only consider an investment bond if you are thinking for the medium to long term (at least 5 years).

Each fund is divided into 'units', which rise and fall in value according to the performance of the fund - there are no guarantees and you may get back less than you invest. There is a published 'unit price' - you multiply this by the number of units you hold to calculate how much your Investment Bond is worth.
